This synthesis of the seminar “The European partisan system” co-organised by Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, EuroCité and Europartenaires summarises the subjects that were debated in this launch event of the cycle about the European public space on 22 February 2013.

On 22 February 2013, Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute organised in Paris and in cooperation with EuroCité and Europartenaires the first seminar of a whole cycle about the European public space “Heading towards the European elections” around the topic “The European party system”.

The cycle and the session were introduced by Jean-Noël
JEANNENEY, President, Europartenaires and moderated by Frédéric MÉNAGER, Secretary General, EuroCité

A debate took place between Julian PRIESTLEY, former Secretary General of the European Parliament, member of the Board of Directors of Notre Europe –
Jacques Delors
Institute; Alain RICHARD,

Yves Bertoncini, Director of Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, and Valentin Kreilinger, Research Fellow at Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute summarise this seminar around four main elements:

1. Political parties, agents in the resolution of political conflicts

2. European political life: a subsidiary reality

3. European parties’s cohesion: party unity in political diversity

4. The importance of ground rules in the European political game

Notre
Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, Eurocité et Europartenaires would like to
thank the Representation of the European Commission in France for hosting this
